Getting started

Getting started with Resource Manager

What Resource Manager does, and the first things to set up.

Resource Manager brings resourcing, timesheets and billing together for consultancies and professional services teams. You plan who works on what, people record their time against projects and tasks, and you can see how every project stands against its budget.

The set-up guide

If you set up your organisation, a Set up your organisation bar runs across the top of each page until everything is ready. It has six steps:

  1. settings;
  2. working time and holidays;
  3. people and roles;
  4. clients and projects;
  5. exports (optional);
  6. a first timesheet.

Select a step to go to its page. The step for the page you are on opens with what to do and shortcuts, such as importing from a spreadsheet. Steps tick themselves off as you do them, or select Mark as done. Hide puts it away; bring it back from the account menu.

Your organisation

Everything in Resource Manager belongs to an organisation: your company's own, private workspace. Nobody outside your organisation can see its people, clients, projects or time.

  • If you created the organisation, you are its Tenant Owner and can do everything.
  • If someone invited you, they chose your roles. Your roles decide what you can see and do.
  • You can belong to more than one organisation. See Switching between organisations.

First steps for an owner or administrator

  1. Review your members under Administration → People. See Managing members.
  2. Set up roles. Six roles are ready to use, and you can rename them, change what they can do, or create your own. Decide who can see charge, cost and pay rates. See Roles and permissions.

Finding your way around

  • The menu on the left has up to three parts. My work is for everyone: your timesheet, your leave and the team calendar. Manage is for managers: approvals, team timesheets, resourcing and projects. Reports opens a page with every report you can see; the home page also has shortcuts to the main ones. On a phone or small window, open the menu with the Open menu button at the top left.
  • Administration (people, roles, clients, rate cards, billing, settings and so on) is its own area. Open it from the bottom of the menu or from the account menu, and use Back to Resource Manager to return. You only see it if you have something to administer.
  • Help is always at the top of the page. It opens the guide for the page you are on.
  • The account menu at the top right has your theme (light, dark or system), switching organisation, and signing out.

Everything works with a keyboard alone, and with screen readers. See Accessibility.
